Role of diplomacy in tackling climate change

Clare Allbless, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Turkmenistan, delivered an interactive lecture on “The role of diplomacy in tackling climate change – A UK Perspective” to the UNRCCA Preventive Diplomacy Academy 2025 cohort.

The session brought together outstanding students and graduates from Central Asia and Afghanistan, who described the lecture and discussion as highly informative and useful. They also shared innovative, creative solutions to address climate and environmental challenges in their countries and the wider region, News Cover reports, citing UK government.

The British Embassy's Deputy Head of Mission, Clare Allbless, and Mr. Andriy Larin, Political Affairs Officer at the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), join the UNRCCA Preventive Diplomacy Academy 2025.

Participants agreed that regional cooperation and preventive diplomacy are essential to tackle the worsening climate crisis. The countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan are among the most climate-vulnerable in the world, facing water scarcity, desertification and glacier melt.

The discussion underscored the vital role of young people in shaping climate policymaking. Their energy, ideas, and leadership are key to building a sustainable future.
