Azerbaijani-American scholar and education specialist Sevinj Mammadova has been appointed Vice Provost of George Washington University in the United States.
With more than 15 years of experience in education, international development and research, Mammadova previously served as the university’s associate dean. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a doctoral degree in Education Administration and Policy from George Washington University, News Cover reports, citing Azerbaijan's State Committee on Work with Diaspora.
Professor Sevinj Mammadova has made significant contributions to developing academic cooperation between universities in Azerbaijan and the United States. At her initiative, the first students were admitted in 2020 to a master’s programme established between George Washington University and Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. In 2025, she also participated in discussions on opportunities for cooperation between George Washington University and Baku State University in scientific research, academic exchange and dual-degree programmes.
Mammadova is one of the founders of the Azerbaijani Academic Network in America, which brings together Azerbaijani scholars and researchers working in the United States. Through the network, scientific forums and conferences have been organized at leading U.S. higher education institutions, including Stanford University, the University of California, Berkeley, and George Washington University. Sevinj Mammadova is also a member of the World Union of Azerbaijani Scholars.
Her work contributes to strengthening the representation of Azerbaijani scholars in the international academic community, expanding cooperation between higher education institutions in Azerbaijan and the United States, and bringing Azerbaijani scholars in the diaspora together through a unified academic network.
