A concert programme titled “Azerbaijani Mugham Music”, dedicated to Azerbaijani mugham, was held at Fountain Hall in the Camphill Village Copake community in New York State, USA.
The concert was attended by residents of Camphill Village, members of the Alliance of Azerbaijani Organizations of America, and Azerbaijani diaspora activists, News Cover reports, citing Azerbaijan's State Committee on Work with Diaspora.
The musical evening was organized to support the social inclusion services and projects implemented in Azerbaijan by the Humayun NGO.
During the programme, American musicians Jeffrey Verbock and his 14-year-old son Joseph Verbock performed various examples of Azerbaijani mugham accompanied by the tar, kamancha and daf. The musical performances were accompanied by images of Azerbaijani carpets and Shusha Fortress. Jeffrey Verbock, who works to promote and teach Azerbaijani mugham, engaged with the audience and answered their questions. The active participation of people with special needs in the programme was particularly noteworthy.
It should be noted that music plays an important role in the socialization of people with special needs in the Camphill community. As part of cooperation between the Humayun NGO and Camphill Village Copake, volunteer and practical training opportunities have been created for students from Azerbaijan. These opportunities allow young people to gain experience working with people with special needs.
The concert contributed to promoting Azerbaijani mugham in the United States, expanding cultural ties and strengthening mutual understanding among different communities.
