Participants of the 7th Diaspora Youth Summer Camp, jointly organized by the State Committee for Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and dedicated to the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture,” visited the cities of Shusha and Khankendi.
The young people, who came from different countries around the world, first visited Shusha. They climbed Jidir Duzu, one of the symbols of Shusha, and admired the spectacular panoramic view. The participants then visited the Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque, the bullet-riddled statues that were subjected to vandalism during the Armenian occupation, the historic Ganja Gate of Shusha Fortress, the House Museum of prominent Azerbaijani poetess Khurshidbanu Natavan, and the Khan’s Daughter Spring, News Cover reports, citing Azerbaijan's State Committee on Work with Diaspora.
The diaspora youth were provided with extensive information about Shusha’s rich history, its cultural heritage, and instances of vandalism against Azerbaijani monuments during the occupation. The large-scale reconstruction and development work underway in the city was met with great interest and admiration.
The young participants then traveled to Khankendi, where they visited Victory Park, reflecting the great victory achieved by the Azerbaijani people in the 44-day Patriotic War. They were briefed on the city’s history and current situation, its social and cultural life, as well as the ongoing reconstruction and development efforts in the region.
The participants also visited Karabakh University. Rustam Isgandarli, Vice-Rector of the university, provided detailed information about the institution’s history, activities, research areas and opportunities for international cooperation. It was noted that Karabakh University aims to make an important contribution to the development of science and education in the liberated territories and to strengthening the intellectual potential of the region.
The visit to Shusha and Khankendi left the camp participants with unforgettable impressions.
It should be noted that the 7th Diaspora Youth Summer Camp is being held in Eastern Zangazur from August 2 to 8, jointly organized by the State Committee for Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. A total of 123 young people from 64 countries are participating in the camp. Previous camps were held in Shaki, Shamakhi, Shusha, Nakhchivan, Lachin and Khankendi, with more than 700 young people from 84 countries participating overall.
