On the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, the British Azerbaijani Society (BAC) submitted an official appeal to the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
In addition, the Azerbaijani Student Society at the University of Essex and Middlesex University student Tofiq Shahniyarov presented official letters to the UK Parliament, News Cover reports, citing the Azerbaijan State Committee on Work with Diaspora.
The documents provided detailed information about the tragic events that took place in Khojaly on February 25–26, 1992. They highlighted that hundreds of civilians lost their lives, thousands were injured, taken hostage, or went missing, and emphasized the importance of evaluating the acts of violence against civilians within the framework of international law.
It was noted that the main purpose of the initiative is not only to respectfully commemorate the victims of the Khojaly tragedy but also to draw the international community’s attention to violence against civilians, encourage an objective investigation of the events, and contribute to lasting peace, justice, and reconciliation in the region.
