London City University holds event honoring Khojaly martyrs

A commemorative event was held at City, University of London, in the United Kingdom, dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.

The event was organized by the British Azerbaijani Society and the university’s Azerbaijani Student Society, News Cover reports, citing the Azerbaijan State Committee on Work with Diaspora.

Hosted by Emil Huseynli, head of the Azerbaijani Student Society, the event began with a one-minute silence in memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide.

Following this, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the UK, Elin Suleymanov, spoke about the severe consequences of the massacre against civilians in Khojaly on February 26, 1992.

The founder of the project War Through the Eyes of Children, Nərminə Məmmədova, also addressed the audience, sharing personal memories and highlighting the deep wounds that war leaves on children’s lives. She noted that the project and competition have attracted wide interest in the UK, with dozens of schools participating.

Farida Panahova, head of the British Azerbaijani Society, emphasized that the main goal of diaspora organizations is to ensure that the truth is not forgotten and that accurate information about this tragedy is passed on to future generations.

During the event, a video interview was presented with Seyavush Huseynov from the Zangilan region, who lost family members during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War.

The War Through the Eyes of Children exhibition showcased drawings by children from various countries, including the UK. A film about the truths of Khojaly was also screened.

The event concluded with a performance by Ukrainian violinist Sofiya Yaborska, who played solemn musical pieces dedicated to the memory of the Khojaly victims.
