The Regina Azerbaijani Cultural Association (AzCAR), based in Canada, has organized an event entitled “Discover Azerbaijan: Culture and Traditions” at the University of Regina.
The event provided detailed information about Azerbaijan’s rich cultural heritage, family and community values, national customs and traditions, holidays, and hospitality, News Cover reports, citing Azerbaijan's State Committee on Work with Diaspora.
Participants exchanged views on the origins of various customs that play an important role in everyday life and how these traditions continue to be preserved and passed down in modern times. Attendees showed great interest in Azerbaijani culture, asked numerous questions, and shared their thoughts and impressions about the country.
AzCAR’s next initiative took place at the White City Public Library in Canada as part of Saskatchewan Culture Days. Azerbaijani national dishes were presented, showcasing the country’s rich culinary traditions.
The delicious Azerbaijani dishes prepared by members of the community attracted considerable interest from attendees. One of the most memorable parts of the programme was an interactive workshop dedicated to making dolma, a traditional Azerbaijani dish. Participants took an active part in the preparation process, gaining practical experience and learning more about another distinctive example of Azerbaijani cuisine. They emphasized that such initiatives make an important contribution to strengthening cultural ties between different communities.
Canada’s Grasslands News newspaper covered the event in an article titled “Cooking Class Introduces White City to Azerbaijani Culture.” The article also highlighted AzCAR’s projects aimed at promoting and raising awareness of Azerbaijani culture in Regina and surrounding areas.
As part of the event’s continuation, the Regina Azerbaijani Cultural Association donated a copy of Azerbaijani Fairy Tales, a book for children, to the White City Public Library. The publication contains a collection of stories reflecting the rich tradition of Azerbaijani folk tales.
These initiatives, spanning cuisine, literature, national customs and traditions, and everyday cultural practices, are particularly significant in introducing Azerbaijan’s rich cultural heritage to Canadian society and strengthening cultural ties between peoples and communities.
