Azerbaijani Community in Luxembourg Expands Cultural and Educational Activities

The new academic year has begun at the LuxAz Centre, established on the initiative of the Luxembourg-Azerbaijan Friendship Association (LuxAz). This season, a range of language, educational and arts programmes for both children and adults has been launched.

Azerbaijani language classes are being held for children aged 6–12 to help young members of the Azerbaijani community living in Luxembourg improve their speaking, reading and self-expression skills in their mother tongue, while familiarizing them with Azerbaijan’s national culture, values and traditions.

The one-hour lessons take place once a week, on Tuesdays, and are taught by PhD Sevinc Omarli. Six children are currently enrolled in the programme, News Cover reports, citing Azerbaijan's State Committee on Work with Diaspora.

One of the main new initiatives this academic year is the establishment of the “Kharibulbul” children’s dance group under LuxAz. Ten girls aged 6–12 have joined the group. Rehearsals are held every Saturday under the guidance of Arzu Suleymanova, a professional dancer with a background in choreography. The group aims to introduce Azerbaijani folk dances and cultural heritage to the younger generation growing up in Luxembourg, preserve national dance traditions and share them with a wider audience. The “Kharibulbul” children’s dance group is currently preparing to participate in two events dedicated to promoting Azerbaijani culture.

LuxAz has also launched Luxembourgish language classes for adults. The 16-member group is taught by Aurelie Wagener, founder of Aurelux and a Luxembourgish language instructor. The two-hour lessons take place every Friday and are designed to improve participants’ everyday communication skills and help them become more familiar with the country’s linguistic environment.

French language classes have also begun at the centre, with 15 participants enrolled in the programme. The lessons are led by Arzu Suleymanova, an accredited French language teacher in Luxembourg, and take place on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Art classes for children are also continuing at the LuxAz Centre. More than 10 children have already enrolled in the one-hour sessions, held on Saturdays under the guidance of artist and educator Aynur Gasimova. The programme aims to develop children’s creativity and imagination while strengthening their self-expression through art.

The programmes offered at the LuxAz Centre contribute to creating a sustainable educational and cultural environment for the Azerbaijani community in Luxembourg, preserving children’s connection to their mother tongue and national cultural heritage, and supporting community members’ integration into Luxembourgish society.

The LuxAz Centre is located at 30 Grand-Rue, L-1660 Luxembourg City.
